Builder's Temporary Power: Getting the Site Board Right

What a compliant builder's temporary supply needs — board configuration, RCD protection, metering and the pole or post that carries it.

The standard temporary setup

A builder's service pole or post, metering enclosure with panel and service protection, main switch and RCD-protected outlets — weatherproof, lockable and positioned clear of the works. Networks inspect temporary supplies with the same rigour as permanent ones.

RCDs and outlet configuration

Every socket outlet on a construction supply needs RCD protection. Typical boards run a mix of 10A and 15A outlets with a 20A or 32A outlet for site sheds and welders — configured and tested before the board leaves the supplier.

Plan the changeover

Order the permanent metering enclosure and board at the same time as the temporary supply. When the build reaches lock-up, the changeover is a scheduled visit rather than a scramble for stock.
