What Is a Level 2 Electrician? (And When You Need One)
Level 2 ASP electricians can work on the network side of your connection — service lines, private poles, metering and disconnect/reconnect work. Here's what they do and when they're required.
Beyond the ordinary licence
A Level 2 Accredited Service Provider (ASP) is authorised to work on the service line between the network and the switchboard — the section an ordinary electrical licence doesn't cover. That includes overhead and underground service connections, private power poles, point-of-attachment work and meter installations.
Jobs that need Level 2
Connecting a new build to the network, upgrading from single to three phase, replacing a private pole, relocating a point of attachment, repairing storm-damaged service cables and installing or altering metering all call for a Level 2 ASP. If the job touches the service side of the main switch, it's Level 2 territory.
Why supply matters
Level 2 work is defect-prone when the hardware does not meet the relevant network specification. Strain clamps, service connectors, service fuses, neutral links and poles should be selected against the applicable requirements before ordering.
