Pole Top Hardware: Hooks, Clamps and Brackets
Q hooks, J hooks, nut-and-bolt hooks, strain clamps and U-hook brackets — matching pole top hardware to the pole and the service.
Hooks by pole type
Screw-in J hooks bite into timber poles only. Steel and composite poles take nut-and-bolt hooks through drilled holes, or Q hooks where the network specifies them. Using a timber screw hook on a steel pole is an instant defect.
Clamping the service
The strain clamp matches the cable: wedge clamps sized for 25mm² ABC for standard bundled services. The clamp bears the mechanical load so the electrical connectors never carry tension.
Mounting the metering
Pole-mounted meter boxes hang on U-hook brackets with backing plates, keeping the enclosure rigid and its rear ventilated. Order the bracket with the box so hole patterns match out of the packet.
