Line Tap Connectors: Copper vs Aluminium
Matching line tap connector material to the mains conductor, and when single or double screw versions are the right pick.
Match the metal
Dissimilar-metal joints corrode. Bare copper line taps suit copper network conductors; aluminium taps suit aluminium mains. Where a copper service meets aluminium mains, use a connector rated for the transition rather than improvising.
Single vs double screw
Double screw taps spread clamping force across two points — the standard choice for neutral connections on network bare cables where a reliable, low-resistance joint matters most. Single screw versions suit active taps and lighter-duty connections. Fit the configuration the network's service rules call for.
Torque and inspection
A line tap is only as good as its installation: clean the conductor, torque the screws to specification and give the joint a visual at every service call. Loose taps run hot, and hot joints become outages.
