New Electrical Connections in NSW: The Process
From connection application to energisation — the steps, parties and paperwork behind a new network connection in NSW.
Application first
A connection application to the network (via the retailer for standard connections) establishes the supply offer: capacity, connection point and any network conditions. Nothing on site should be built until the offer matches what the installation needs.
The build
A licensed electrician wires the installation; a Level 2 ASP builds the service — pole, overhead or underground run, point of attachment and metering. The metering enclosure, panel, service fuse and neutral link should be checked against the applicable network requirements.
Certification and energisation
The electrician certifies the installation, the Level 2 completes the service work and notification, and the retailer's metering provider installs the meter. Missing paperwork — not faulty work — causes most energisation delays.
